36 years ago I watch the first Top Gun movie, and it really hit me! At the time I was a young runner trying to be the best I could be, and here was Pete Mitchell.
He seemed like the perfect guy, had it all, confidence, skill, and the looks to back it all up. Everything I ever dreamed of!
How could I ever match this guy? Then, things turned black during the film, and Maverick lost his way. Goose was gone, he thought it was his fault, and he didn’t want it anymore.
What happened next inspired me, despite such a big knock on his confidence Maverick made it back. It wasn’t easy, but he didn’t give up.
I went out and trained hard, got quicker, and used the downs to make myself better! Thanks, Maverick!
In everything, your most important goal is to make progress. Sometimes progress involves making an unexpected detour or a mistake (like Maverick). All successful people experience this sort of thing, keep going, and accept that someday, it will be a big part of your success story.
I am so excited to be going to watch the latest Top Gun movie, and I am sure I will have lots of “business and life” takeaways.
